original description- "Well here it is, at last, my very first real airbrushing painting. Bows at applause. I drew this digitally, completely from scratch, with a mouse! The idea for this came to me in an english class one day. For some reason I had to write a very short story about a creaure of sea and air. At the time I was thinking very sevenwatersy about Niamh at the Honeycomb just before she plunged to her doom. And although in my mind this is her, it is also the woman from my story. The story I am going to tell you... Yes you have to suffer through it. She stood at the edge. From my vantage point, further back from the precipice, I could see her long hair whipped up by the wind, flapping in a wild dance with her skirts. I watched enthralled as they swooped and dove, just over the long drop to the sea below, enticing her to join their carvorting. The enraptured expression on her face made me wonder if she would. For a heart breaking moment she teetered on the edge, arms outstretched , and, in my mind's eye, I saw how it would be. White skirts would merge and become feathers, in place of pale arms would be strong wings and her face, the face that was close in my mind every moment, of every day , would turn from me to the sun on the horizon. Her kind could fly for a year and a day without rest, she was born for it, and yet she was held here. Turning away from the edge she made her way towards me over the rocky ground, smiling. She would not fly where she had not yet taught me to follow." please dont |
